League of Worlds 3
POSTED: November 4, 2006
Camie and I have spent the last week at the LoW3 conference at the Appalachian State University
in Boone, North Carolina.
The conference finished yesterday, and this morning we have to drive for two and a half hours to get to Charlotte airport where we will check in, nine hours before our flight. This is because Carl and Junko are getting a plane at midday and Marty (very reasonably) does not want to drive there and back, in order to drive us there and back a couple of hours later.
This has been the most interesting conference I can remember in many ways, and certainly the most productive. The first day was spent doing a show and tell, in which everyone had less time than they needed to read their papers. Thus everyone gave a complementary summary of their work, which was a much better use of time. During most of the rest of the week small groups worked on outlining and research programe in their area of interest.
At least three groups have been working on educational work in Second Life, and we have arranged to meet them in-world next week. Later today we are going to meet Kelly Czarnecki in real life, in Charlotte at Imaginon, where she works as teen librarian. She is part of the Info Island project, and we have been discussing the possibilities of establishing a branch library in Rosario.
We agreed to turn the LoW site into a group blog which we can use to continue the work we began at the conference, and my job is to get that done next week. That is the reason I have been working on this site as much as I can this week, late at night and early in the morning. This is going to be a model for that!
Since this more or less works now this is a more plausible strategy than it appeared forty eight hours ago.
