Shanti and I leave the house for her pre-breakfast walk and discover a surprise. On the way into the woods stands a big truck, with a driver sitting reading. After we have squeezed past it we come across this: a JCB digger standing at the junction.

It has nobody in it but the engine still runs. As Shanti passes it the engine suddenly stops and she whirls round to stare at it. She stands watching for some moments before she decides she can safely turn her back on it.

Much later in the day, on another trip into the woods, we will discover that the truck contained soil and the JCB spread the soil along the edges of the path where someone had spread soil a couple of weeks ago.
