Irma has joined the British Women’s Association and as a result of this she has received an invitation to the Garden party to celebrate the King’s birthday. She has opted to take me as her avec.

We get there and I take a picture of the flag flying over the embassy before going in to meet the ambassador, people we know, and then sample the cheeses provided by Rolling Cheese.

We had to leave Shanti with Camilla’s little brother Michael because the ice-cream van will come while we mingle in the embassy. We dare not leave her at home on her own for fear of the damage she might cause in her desperate efforts to get out of the house to the man who gives her ice-cream.
