A couple of days ago Irma decided to move the Adventure of the Sabotaged Rubbish Bin on to the next chapter. She prepared a text for the bin, weatherproofed it, and stuck it on the bin.

Days later the message remains there and, more importantly, the bin remains closed, and the rubbish safely inside.

The note politely points out that everyone will benefit if the bin is left closed. Irma’s appeal to the better nature of the litter scatterer seems to have worked.

Perhaps her intuition was correct: a child or young teenager did it without thinking of the consequences. A gentle reminder that other people had an interest in the bin remaining useful caused them to think again.

The note says “Hei sinä, joka avaat roskiksen säännöllisesti. Lopettaisitko, kiitos, on meilla kaikille mukavaa, etä roskit pysyy roskisessa. Kiitos.”
