1234 might not seem a number that most people celebrate but, for those who keep a sharp lookout for consecutives, this counts as one of the big ones: the first four digital consecutive number, and one of only two available on a digital clock.

Today I completed 1234 rounds of Wordle, having started late and missed some days when, for one reason or another, I had no web connection.

My score card looks like this.

When I began I had no strategy for how to complete the puzzle, but within a few months one emerged. I realised that starting with AUDIO and following that with RHYME left me well positioned to finish the puzzle in 4. I could also use THYME for the second word if I suspected the letter T would likely fit with the initial letters better.

I then started thinking on buses, metros and trams about the patterns that five letter words fall into, and that way lay madness.

I also realised fairly early on that the fact that the game has no time limit means that I don’t have to complete it in one sitting. I can do the first two lines and then sit with it in the back of my mind for most of the day, coming back to it every now and then.

From time to time people (including The New York Times) have tried to introduce me to new word games but with the single exception of Word Ladder in i, which Auo used to like doing with me when we visited London, nothing else has had any lasting appeal.

More when I eventually get to 2345 (assuming the games continues that long)!
