We learned a couple of weeks ago that Swiss Café will not reopen this year. The owner and staff have all decamped to north Kerala where they come from and will do something there. We noticed signs going up indicating that Café Amaara has replaced Swiss Café.

Today we decided to go there and see how it fares. To test I ordered my standard examination meal of cheese naan with dal fry and alue gobi. They all seem fine: the dal fry in particular scored high. It was not a thin gruel but something more like rice pudding.

There didn’t seem a lot of uniqueness about the place though, and there was a big boombox in the corner waiting ominously.

While we sat I looked out of the window and caught a woman in a red sari in the sea with her small child. The camera protested but I got an image that I will count as just about okay: a rehearsal for the shot I could have taken with a proper camera.
