Irma first heard online about Bu.mi, a new restaurant getting very good reviews, and decided that a visit there should more than fulfill her promise to give me a picnic as my birthday treat.

The owners of Bu.mi have decided on a soft opening. The restaurant first opened last week and as yet has no website or online presence.

We decided on eating early and asked San to drive us there. To my delight it turns out to sit just off the highway into Trivandrum: much nearer than I expected. It has a single door in a blank wall, and as soon as you enter you leave the road completely behind and enter an alternative universe.

The menu has many pages and we select some sharing dishes including some excellent prawns. I also have the Signature Fish Curry and a cocktail called Jalapeno Breeze. I don’t think I could have chosen better.

To our surprise the whole experience cost very little more than an evening on the beach.
