The hyperactive TGIF group informed us that the Inner Wheel Charity Sale will take place at the YWCA at Spencer Junction opposite AG’s office.

Sanu deciphers the address and off we go.

Princess Aswathy Thirunal Gouri Lakshmi Bayi, who served as their past president, helms the event. She chats, sells me a wooden box and offers to sell me some or all of her 15 books. Irma takes some pictures with her.

She explains carefully, and at some length, the difference between treasure and wealth. Treasure has no legal owner and thus the government can claim 50% of it, leaver the finder with the rest. Wealth on the other hand has a clear owner and the government has no claim to the money except if it raises taxes if, it can.

I walk round the fair and buy some pickles that the seller’s mother makes in Alleppy. Irma’s also buys some pickles that someone else’s mother makes somewhere else in Kerala.

On the way out I learn that the Christmas fair will take place in the YWCA at the end of November.
