We have to Finnkino in Itis to see a movie called Materialists, starring Dakota Johnson and Chris Evans. The film has received all sorts of praise for its subtlety and maturity. When we leave the cinema we will both ask what the critics could possibly have seen in it.

It seemed to tell a very simple story with no twists or turns, no conflict and no character development.

I will have photographed various advertisements before the (overlong) movie began so I will get something out of the experience apart from a sense of puzzlement.

For example, before the film even begins, HSL, the Helsinki transport system, will have taught me that kaikki on mahdollista, or “everything is possible”.

Always good to know.
