I had lunch with Andrew gryf Paterson at Mau–Kas, a student restaurant on or near the Aalto University campus at Otaniemi. The metro station has two exits and meeting Andrew involved oscillating between the two.

We ate a vegetarian buffet and talked of many things. We talked about archiving and social memory, about Pixelache’s peculiar parochialism, and about possible opportunities in Oulu in the summer of 2026.

I photograph the reflections in the front windows as we leave. Through a miracle of perspective I manage to avoid appearing in the image.

No hokey pokey involved. And we never found out what “Mau–Kas” meant or stood for.
