Today the flagship Stockmann store in Itis closes down, and Irma, Naa and I have come to have a look. Most of the bargains have already gone, but a few remain and a few shoppers gather round searching for them.

Stockmann’s management would probably disagree, but we think they made a series of blunders that contributed greatly to the demise of the store. They sold the food shop. They closed the electronics department. They closed the bookshop. They got rid of the café and restaurant.

It went from a one-stop destination to a clothing, cosmetics and home decor store no better than many of the other clothing, cosmetics and home decor stores in Itis. In other words, it lost its purpose.
