Hameentie, 15:00
Auo and I have both been waking up very early since we arrived back in Helsinki. I woke at 6:00 again, and thought and read until I got up at 7:00. I had breakfast and Auo got up to say goodbye before I left.
I spent the morning running the first session of the XML Foundations course, which contained six new students from ITT in Dublin. I set them all up with usb sticks and a suite of portable apps. I also arranged to meet them all tomorrow to make sure that they have everything they need. I am not officially their tutor, but then neither is anyone else, so I may as well be. I also told everyone that I had flipped the class, and so their assignments would be to learn xml and the classes would be workshops that would practise what they had taught themselves. They seemed happy with the idea.
At 13:00 I met Stefan in TAIK and we spent a couple of hours bringing ourselves up to date. I talked about how my thesis was going, and he talked about the book and symposium he would like to involve me in.
Now I have walked back and am approaching Arcada. The snow is on the ground but the weather is only about minus 5 and, because there is no wind, it feels rather pleasant.
Soon I will get back to thinking and writing. I will bring the ponline diary up to date, and make sure everything that needs to be is in Its Learning. I will agree to supervise a thesis, and send several emails that should produce interesting results.
I will spend the evening tidying up the writing I did in Kerala, after drinking a cup soup we bought from Fabindia. The soup is Karela flavour, which is entirely different from Kerala, but very nice and spicy. When I leave I will notice that it has been snowing hard.
It will continue to snow with increasing ferocity all the way home.
