Fireworks are being let off. Uday has come down to join us and is drinking a glass of local hooch. Michael has provided us with home-made Indian party hats. The chef wants us to join him and some Japanese women who are dancing wildly in a cupboard. Later Uday will lead us through a maze of alleys and up the hill to avoid the police blockade and get a taxi his friend is driving.
