This tiny old iron sits on a shelf in Auo’s old room. Inside it has a small piece of stone that you heat up by placing in a fire. Then you insert it, close the little door at the back and start ironing.

I have never know whether children used to use this particular iron as a toy, or a way to practice, or whether adults used to use this for specific specialist ironing tasks: collars, that kind of thing.

I don’t suppose it matters but periodically I notice the iron and start wondering again.
