A cultural reboot
POSTED: September 3, 2024
Sometimes news travels slow. On Saturday July 14 Nicholas Serota, the Arts Council England chair, proposed that Britain needs a cultural reboot and cheerfully said “Here’s my five-point plan to fix the arts”.
Apparently he intended this as an appeal to the new government and he proposed the missions needed to achieve renewal. You can read all about it in The Guardian.
In brief, he proposed five “missions”:
1. An Early Years Art Intervention
2. A creative entitlement for every child and young person
3. Revitalised communities, with culture and creativity at their heart
4. Global exchange
5. A free and fearless sector
Who wouldn’t agree with this, put like that? The difficulty, as always, lies in the details. And the details, like always, lie unspecified and unsought.
