We spent the morning wandering around the part of Murano where we stay. We have begun to realise that we can get to the main canals very quickly and simply, and that we have small shops at hand, selling fruit and vegetables, as well as ham and cheese.

We also have a small canal-side bar called Poldo Bar twenty metres from the apartment, just by Ponte de las Terese.

In the afternoon we extend our wandering to take in the main thoroughfares. I wait outside a glass shop and watch the barges go by. Outside a café on the opposite side a girl reads her phone.

Fifteen minutes later, she has not looked up once and I photograph her.
