The sea between Split and Brač, 11:50

Yesterday evening we got ahead of the game and bought tickets for the 11:30 ferry to Supertar while the crowds milled around elsewhere. This morning, as we suspected, we pass a queue about one hundred metres long at the ticket kiosks.

We sit indoors, to keep out of the sun while we can, but I go upstairs onto the deck to photograph the sea.

I almost capture a whole gull.

The ferry, run by Jadrolinija, takes just less than an hour to get to the island of Brač, where Supetar stands as one of small towns at each of the four compass points. The contrast between Split and Supetar strikes both of us immediately. We both feel an instant islandy feeling, with nobody seemingly in a hurry to get anywhere.

We will walk along to a beach to swim in crystal clear water that has so much salt that you could not sink even if you wanted to.
