We have tried and failed to find any cans of water chestnuts in Itäkeskus. We have looked in Prisma, Alanya, and the shops in the new kauppahalli. Today I decided to walk to Spicetown to see if they had any.

They didn’t, and suggested I do what I already knew I probably needed to do: go to one of the Asian shops in Hakaniemi.

I get the metro and walk behind the market hall (the kauppahalli, I suppose). The building I want seems completely covered in plastic sheeting and scaffolding and I almost turn back. I go ahead anyway to discover the shop door open.

Do they have cans of water chestnuts? Yes they do.
