To Filen or not to Filen

I have just come across Filen which, on the face of it, looks like something well worth supporting, as an alternative to Dropbox.

Filen has a short and interesting history and has developed a zero knowledge sync and backup system that, they claim, has operated profitably from almost the moment it began.

Its problem, ironically, lies in exactly the area it focuses on: trust. Should I trust a very small company run by three people to stay in business long enough to safeguard all my files?

They have the backing of a German university, so perhaps I should trust them.

I think I will get the very small, free account and check out their apps. If they seem to work flawlessly then perhaps I will wait till the end of the year and see what I can see in their Black Friday offers (if any).
