Today I feel much better, although not yet well. My flu has responded to the various potions the pharmacy provided, and my throat no longer feels as though it contains a series of open wounds.
I wander into the alley to check the mail and then to throw some twigs in the woods. The heatwave has, of course, ended. I wander out in a cardigan and scarf.
As I pass Christian and Nannu’s house I see possibly the biggest child’s self-portrait I have ever seen.
I have seen lots of drawings in this style, usually in notebooks or on pieces of paper. Iida, the literal girl next door, has filled their drive with a gigantic drawing of herself in front of an even bigger house.
I look at it and chuckle at the sheer scale of it. I go indoors to get my camera and return to photograph it.
