Keraleeyam logo
POSTED: November 21, 2023
When we first saw the publicity for the Kerala Keraleeyam week I decided that I liked the logo. I have since found out more about it.
Bose Krishnamachari designed it, which intrigued me because we first came across him as one of the founders and curators of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale.
I found a webpage, which has since disappeared, explaining the meaning of the logo. It said that “the logo combines several symbolic elements:”
1. The Sun and its rays
Representing hope, enlightenment, and positivity.2. The Wheel:
Signifying the first invention and the realm of science, speed, a crucial aspect of human progress.3. 24 Spokes (Ashok Chakra):
Corresponding to the 24 multiple spokes / 24 hours symbolizing progress, vibrancy, unity, and perseverance.4. Geographical Map of Keralam:
Showcasing the unique beauty and diversity of Kerala’s geographical -landscape with its verdant coconut palms. The image for this logo originated from the sketch of a coconut tree visualised from eye level.
The page added that “the logo also carries various numerological meanings, adding depth and significance to its design”.
And it looks very nice, and works well graphically on all the posters and brochures.
I found the image above on the web, on the Madhyaman magazine site, above an article that comments on the controversy about how much, if anything the logo cost the state. The article has the title Keraleeyam logo was made without getting paid: it is fake propaganda that he got 7 crores.
Culture and politics, they never fail to mix because how could they?
