We walk slowly down to the Al Ghurair Centre, pausing to buy me a collection of t-shirts at an outlet we have used before.

The centre has changed dramatically. It now has food courts on all floors. By the time we realise this we find ourselves on the top floor where I notice a mural of dripping ice-cream cones outside McDonalds. I photograph a detail.

I have the McArabia, which seems the local speciality. It has chicken inside a loose wrap. After India I can taste the almost total lack of spices.

I decide that I will probably not order it again.
