Looking for something for something that I planned to write (and have not yet actually written) I came across a list of famous copyright infringement cases, written by Kaitlyn Ellison and first published on 99Designseleven years ago.

They all relate to copyright infringement in the wacky world of design and the cases mentioned consist of:

1. Art Rogers vs Jeff Koons

Koons lost.

2. Associated Press vs Shephard Fairey

They reached an out of court settlement.

3. Richard Prince vs Patrick Cariou

Cariou won but the decision got overturned on appeal. You can read about the appeal and its consequences in some detail at Wikipedia.

4. Modern Dog vs Target / Disney

Modern Dog won, although not without going through considerable pain. You can find a later discussion of this case by Aksh IP Associates at LinkedIn.

5. Vanilla Ice vs. David Bowie/Freddie Mercury

Vanilla Ice lost, but it had no real consequences to anybody else, and it got included in the list more for its amusement value than anything else.
