I take some photographs of a spider that we saw yesterday in the garden and see again, in exactly the same place, today. We have no idea about the odd nature of its web.

I originally dismissed the intricate patterns that surround it as tricks of the light but, on closer examination, it becomes clear that the spider has deliberately woven them. They form part of thevdesign of its web?

Do a lot of spiders do this, or have we found the only spider in the world committed to innovating and disrupting the traditional web?

A search on Google indicates that some spiders produce complex webs, but I don’t find out if this particular example constitutes spider innovation or not.
