Sestiere San Marco, Venice, 13:26
Today we opt to take the 4.1 waterbus to Venice to see the sights. We fear that we will find it too crowded. Our fears will prove well-founded.
The journey to Sestiere San Marco takes about twenty minutes as the waterbus stops in Murano several times and then several times in Venice before arriving. I notice how the sea has regular markers, like the frames of huge teepees, so that the various “roads” all have clear definitions.
We arrive and immediately spot a gondala tourist-capturing hub. I walk over and take some photographs. Again, I notice how the parking spaces all have wooden markers that boats attach themselves to.
We will enter the labyrinth of small alleys, along with half of the rest of the world, and make our way through until we finally find a pizzeria called Al Teatro Goldoni, which has a miraculously almost-empty room where we can sit and have a drink.
