I have found a place in Schiphol airport where I can look out of the window and see people who have no intention of boarding a plane. I can observe three different groups, who all move as though invisible to the others.

One group involves plane-spotters who stand in groups of two or three with binoculars in hand, pointing into the distance. The second group consists of youngish couples pushing babies in buggies while talking or obviously not talking. The third group comprises teenagers, often in groups that contain one couple and a spare boy or two. These sit on the benches, sometimes on top of each other, and snog rebelliously.

The sun makes it a nice day for all three groups.
