I go out to the small shed where we keep the rubbish bin in order to collect a metal bucket. I will use this to clear most (but not all) of the ash from the fireplace. I will then take the ash to the woods and bury it under the snow, providing compost for next Spring.

As I step outside I notice the yellow lantern hanging on the rubbish shed. It offers the only real colour within view. The candle makes the range of colours slightly more complex.
