Hawa Beach, 12:48
I had a phone conversation that left me feeling like I did not want to sit in the house. I wanted to walk. I have not done enough walking in the last few weeks, primarily because we have had other things to do, and also because the weather most days has not seemed like walking weather.
I set off down to the beach with the idea of seeing if I can find any grocery stores within walking distance. I walk to the Temple and then turn up Temple Road. The shop that used to stand there, halfway up, on the left side, no longer exists. I walk up to the top of the road and turn left down towards the rickshaw rank at the edge of Hawa Beach.
Just as I step onto the beach area I see a huge sculpture of a guitarist caught mid-noodling. I realise that the the International Indie Music Festival will take place a rickshaw ride away, starting next Wednesday.
According to The New Indian Express the festival will include “reggae sensation Anslom from Papua New Guinea, award-winning songwriter and singer Lyia Meta from Malaysia, UK-based blues and rock guitarist Will Jones, Seattle-based rock artist Sami Chohfi’s Blue Helix, Singapore-based Vedic metal band Rudra, hip hop-jazz musician Roc Flowers from Italy and many more.
Indian bands such as Oorali, Agam, Project Malabaricus, Chaos, When Chai Met Toast, Sherise, Lazie J and Job Kurian will also entertain the crowd”.
Will I find myself driven to attend or not? Let’s wait and see, shall we.
