On the spur of the moment after work we decide to go grocery shopping in the Mall of Travancore. We go by rickshaw: exhilarating or frightening, you choose.

We need a can opener for the simple reason that we have some cans we can’t currently open. I look for one in Ramachandran, the new big supermarket that replaced Hi-Mart. They don’t sell them, and as I wander around the supermarket I understand why. They don’t have a single example of canned goods in the store.

I pause at the sacks of rice, and look at this one in detail. Down at the bottom of the sack I spot two mysteries. Firstly, I can see a bold sign saying OLD. What does this mean?

Secondly, I can see a line of text near the bottom of the sack that says DISCLAIMER: We hereby Voluntarily Forgo all types of actionable claim or enforceable right respect of the Brand Name printer on this packing. What does this mean?

I like the design. I like the puzzles even more.
