Ålandet, 17:12
We spotted a pop–up pizza restaurant in the Pellinki group in Facebook. Today it starts its first day. We looked at the Luodoton Lokki website and decided on the basis of that to eat some pizza later today.
The website recommends arriving by boat and as we drive there we start to understand why. I did not realise the size of Ålandet and how far you can drive down the road past the church without appearing to reach anywhere. Eventually we almost find our destination and phone for help, to discover we have another thirty metres to travel.
It turns out that Juuso Holstein’s pop–up Luodoton Lokki runs from two pizza ovens housed in Åke Andersson’s old cool room. In fact he has named the salmon pizza the Pizze Åke in his honour. We realise that we have arrived at Åke’s house, where he used to make his legendary fried fish with blue cheese topping.
When we get home the pizzas, both the Åke and the Meri Vege, will prove delicious. We will eat them outside in the sun, glad that we made the effort to get them.
