The sheer amount of overhead cables you see in Kerala (and everywhere else in India I have visited, if memory serves me well) never fails to entertain me. I can spend a long time speculating to myself as to their purpose.

Some cables end in coils that just hang there. Others join together in what looks like an ad hoc arrangement. Outside our house we have at least two coils of cable hanging down from the roof. Cable tv, electricity, internet, somewhere to store wire: who knows?

I look up at some wires as we leave the Subash Centre to wait for Rajeev, who has decided to arrive early and so already sits waiting for us. Sahan, Simi and I stand talking, while Fahan leaps on his scooter, and Lekshmi walks off with Anusree.

The sky has turned full blue again and I hope that last night’s power cuts won’t repeat themselves tonight.
