Turtle on the Beach, 10:23
I noticed something yesterday while I sat on the balcony reading. I noticed it again as I sat by the pool thinking about what I had read. Something changes when you can look up and see the sea and changes even more when you can look up and see the horizon.
No room, however comfortable and well–appointed can overcome this. E.O. Wilson has pointed out that in every time and place for which we have records those who can choose have chosen to live on an incline looking at the sea and/or the horizon. He posits genetic reasons for this.
As a result I thought much more clearly and with greater effect than I had expected. The next chapter appeared in front of me.
All this happened in spite of the bizarre nature of the sculptures that line the roof outside the room: an amalgam of hands, toes and turtles.
