I go for a long Sunday walk because I never went for one yesterday. To my surprise I pass the little park to find the playground completely empty. I wander in to photograph the stripes on the “witches’ hat” style roundabout.

I listen to Steve Levitt interviewing Sam Harris on People I (Mostly) Admire with more interest than I had anticipated.

Later we will go to Kamppi where Irma’s mother will make a final, determined effort to prolong my birthday. She will give me a mouth-blown vase to go with the other Iitala glassware and Alvar Aalto lamp that I got from Irma.

Since I have long admired Finnish design I feel not only happy, but as though I have finally achieved Finnhood.
