Yesterday afternoon we decided to cycle down to the ferry and then up to Tirmo, which we hadn’t visited yet. I pumped up the bike tyres. I may have pumped mine too much because ten metres from the farm my back wheel flattened instantly to the extent that the tyre came off.

I walked / carried it back to the farm before jogging back in time for the next ferry.

Today I celebrate the fact that we have a spare inner tube here. I sit in the blazing sun – even hotter than yesterday – and remove the rear wheel from the bike. Yes, I pumped too hard. The seam on the inner tube has split where it joins the valve.

I put the new tube in and cycle down to the ferry and back up again to test it.
