The sky, 8:35

We left the house at 5:45 and breezed through security in seconds flat. I took fifteen books to the book exchange, and we breakfasted in the temporary Finnair lounge.

We have taken off and for ten minutes or so we fly just above the clouds. The skyscape looks solid, of course, like a magic kingdom in which we might glimpse female warriors on skyhorses.

Auo and H.G. Wells come into my mind simultaneously: one because she once chattered excitedly about how the clouds looked just like mountains, and one because he wrote a short story about an early flier who flew above the clouds for the first time and found unimaginable creatures living there.

The flight will last six hours.
