I have opened the sliding window, and I sit on the twentieth floor in room 2008 of the Royal Garden at Waikiki, on Olohana Street, looking out as the sun sets over the mountains.

Sunset happens rapidly. The day disappears almost instantly and the buildings stop glistening reflectively and become black slabs.

The buildings take on the appearance of abandoned monoliths.
