Parrot witnesses murder

In a report in the Guardian headlined “Parrot could be witness to possible US murder case”, that I have only just noticed, the Associated Press reported on June 7th that a “parrot called Bud keeps repeating ‘Don’t fucking shoot’ in the voice of his owner Martin Duram who was shot five times in his Michigan home”.

According to the article

The ex-wife of a western Michigan man believes a parrot is repeating something said just before his fatal shooting but a prosecutor is downplaying whether that could be used in court.
“I’m not aware of any legal precedent for that,” Newaygo county prosecutor Robert Springstead told the Associated Press on Monday.
“Certainly, as we work our way through the case, that may be something to look at, but I highly doubt there is any precedent for that.”

Duram’s ex-wife, Christina Keller, now owns Bud and has recorded it saying the fatal phrase. Duram’s current wife was also shot in the head in the mysterious incident at home but has survived.

Only one parrot witnessed the events.
