We get up late to see the remains of yesterday’s snow beginning to melt in the warmer, windier weather. I go for a walk and spot a Vappu balloon-seller standing miserably in the grey windy weather. I turn around and trudge back, exercise done.

Later the sun will appear and I will get my bike out and check the tyres. I will oil the chain and go for a short ride to make certain everything still works.

Irma and I will then both lie down for siestas, overcome by the wine we had to drink yesterday to combat the sudden return of deep winter. We will get up for dinner and eat food and drink water.

We will agree that we have celebrated enough and go to bed early.
